Digital eye strain in kids

Increased screen time may result in

  • Myopia progression – frequent change in spectacles
  • Squint
  • Abnormal development of vision


What can be done???

  • Engagement of young children in outdoor games
  • Regular eye exams
  • Try to keep the screen time to the minimum


WHO recommendations

  • Under the age of 5 – spend one hour or less per day
  • Under  the age of 1 – spend no time on digital devices

AAO recommendations

  • 20-second break from close-up work every 20 minutes.
  • Set a timer to remind kids to take breaks.
  • Keep digital media 18 to 24 inches away from the face.
