What is an optic nerve head???

It is the part of the optic nerve that is inside the eye. It is the place where the nerves present in the retina join and exit the eye. It is also the place where the blood vessels of the retina enter and exit the eye.

Optic Nerve:-

It is the nerve that is responsible for vision. It connects the eye to the brain and sends impulses from the eye to the brain. There are several nerve fibers situated at the back of the eye on the retina, which join together to form the optic nerve.

Parts of Optic Nerve Head

  1. Optic disc – The round part which looks like a disc.
  2. Optic cup – The lighter round part inside the disc.
  3. Cup to disc ratio – The size of the whole cup to the size of the whole disc (Normal – 0.3-0.5)
  4. Blood vessels
